Marilyn Orellana ’23 – IES Santiago, Chile

¡Hola!

My name is Marilyn Orellana and I am a senior majoring in Spanish with a minor in Chemistry on the Pre-Medicine track. I am an Ecuadorian who was raised in Chicago, Illinois!! On campus, residential life has been a big part of my involvement as I was a Resident Assistant for two years and then became a Neighborhood Coordinator for Fall 2022. Other things I have been involved in are working as an Admissions tour guide, Phelps Scholars Program, Biochemistry research, general member of Latino Student Organization, Teaching Assistant for General Biology lab and Organic Chemistry lab, and so on that the list might be too long!!!

I’m extremely excited (and nervous) to be going abroad to Santiago, Chile to participate in the Health Studies Program! I will be able to obtain a more global perspective of the medical field since my program will be focusing on clinical observations and learning about public health specific to Chile. Saying goodbye to everyone as I leave a semester early before commencement in May is definitely hard but a new insightful journey awaits, so will you follow my journey?

Nos vemos pronto,

Marilyn
