Julia Wilson ’21 – IES Cape Town, South Africa

Hi! My name is Julia and I am a junior at Hope studying biology and psychology. I am originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, but have really enjoyed getting to know Holland these past few years. One of my favorite things to do in Holland is watch the sunset over Lake Michigan—it truly never gets old!

At Hope I am a research assistant and teacher’s assistant in the biochemistry and chemistry department, tour guide, bible study leader, and cross country runner. I also love traveling, hiking, meeting new people, eating good food, dancing, and the occasional episode (or season) of Friends.

This spring I am headed to Cape Town, South Africa, with the International Education of Students (IES) Abroad. I will be taking classes at the University of Cape Town (UCT). My heart has felt a desire to get to know part of Africa for a long time (since I was 8 years old) so I am beyond excited to spend a few months in South Africa. Thanks for journeying with me as I attempt to share my thoughts and experiences along the way!
