Preparing for Take-Off

Hello everyone,

As I am preparing to leave for Australia, a lot has been circling through my mind. People keep asking me, “Kass, are you done packing yet?”. I respond with a laugh and announce that I haven’t even yet begun. I guess you could say I have a problem with procrastination. However, I am getting very excited to meet those who are also part of the TEAN program. As of right now, I have no relationship with anyone who I will be spending the next three months with. This is definitely a bitter-sweet feeling. I am excited for the change, excited for the unpredictable, but I am very nervous. Although this is to be expected, I do not remember the last time I have felt all of these feelings at once.

On Saturday at 6 o’clock pm, I will board my flight and try to fight the urge of looking back. My flights will leave me traveling for two days straight. I’m just praying I don’t get stuck with a middle seat. Once I arrive in Australia, I will be in Cairns for my orientation for a few days. While I am there, we will go snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. I am absolutely stoked for this, as it has been on my bucket list ever since I was six years old. After that, I will get onto another flight bringing me to Sydney, where I will move into my apartment with four other roommates.

As you can see, I am about to go through many adjustments and learning experiences within the next week. I think the scariest part about this next chapter of my life is leaving my friends and family behind. However, I know they are only a phone call away, and I will be back in Michigan before I know it.

In closing, I am very thrilled to have this opportunity and to see how the other bloggers experiences are going. Wish me luck packing, and I can’t wait to update you guys on how my first week abroad went!

Thank you for reading & stay tuned for more,

Kassie Lamar
