Everyone’s Favorite Day!

Despite many exams, assignments, and projects being due on Friday, everyone still loves Friday. I can guarantee it is everyone’s favorite day (in the weekday of course!) If you’re reading this, give yourself a pat on the back. You made it through this week. I know for some, it was just such a draining week. I know it was for me. This week, I didn’t have any big exams, but I had so much busy work. Talk about redundant. Anyway, with all of that said, I’m glad I made it to Friday. Maybe I’ll play “Friday” by Rebecca Black…

Anyways, I’m so glad this week is over. All of my assignments are done, I took care of myself, and I didn’t get sick! I feel like everyone is coming down with something. I ran twice this week, which also made me feel great despite my heavy load of work!

On Tuesday, I ran 7 miles, because I could. It was such a nice day for a run because it was beautiful, warm, and sunny. I also beat a PR of mine, which was even more encouraging. I know this sounds CRAZY but the following day, I ran 3.22 miles with a friend.

3.22 Miles!
3.22 Miles!

So all in all, I ran a little more than 10 miles this week! And on top of that, I wake up early to workout in the mornings. Seriously though, I recommend just getting active and moving around. You’ll feel great, be more energized, and less stressed! Speaking of which, if you haven’t read my blog on stress, you should! CLICK HERE! Anyways, today is a very special day for three reasons. 1) IT’S NOVEMBER! 2) IT’S CHELSEA’S 22nd BIRTHDAY and 3) IT’S NATE’S BIRTHDAY! Ok, so I am a little biased, they’re some of my amazing friends, but today is going to be all about them! You might know Chelsea because she is a fellow blogger! CLICK HERE to go to her blog page! It’s got great content, I definitely recommend it! Anyways, I can’t wait until my classes are done because we are going to spend some time together celebrating.

It's Chelsea and me!

on the road again…day 4: race day!

My alarm went off at 5:40 am and my excitement quickly reached every part of my body as I jumped out of bed and got my race clothes on. We headed out the door around 6:30 and drove a mile to the starting line. The weather was incredible. The sun boar down as its heat gently greeted the awakening city of Nashville, as it was 48 degrees out.

It took us awhile to find parking, so we only had ten minutes to stretch before the race started at 7. The gun went off and we nervously began our trek of the longest distance we had ever run: 13.1 miles. The first mile felt great as we ran down Nashville’s Music Row and through the city. By mile 5, I was feeling the effects of all the hills and I quickly told Jesus that there would be no way I was going to finish without his help. We ran over the city’s bridge and down through a park where we were greeted by more hills and nature.

I had “I Run For Jesus” on the back of my legs and we got so much encouragement from other members of the Body of Christ.  It was awesome! We didn’t know any of these people but there is something about putting your body through such exhaustion alongside of others that brings people together in camaraderie and towards a common goal of finishing together.

Once the last 2 miles hit, I knew I could make it. The last 0.3 miles was all downhill, thank God. We sprinted towards the finish line, hand in hand, smiling from ear to ear. That feeling of accomplishment is something I have never experienced before. I have never done anything so hard in my life, but knowing that I pushed through my own screaming body to finish a goal that I had set was incredible. It taught me to lean completely and utterly on Christ, especially in the times I felt I could not take another step. It taught me how the body of Christ should look-to be unified through encouragement and work together towards a common goal.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. -Galatians 6:9

About to start the race!

The writings on our legs

My wonderful roomie; our number one fan and supporter!

Finally it came! After what felt like a never-ending week, the weekend has officially arrived. I feel so much better today knowing I get to chill and relax some with my family and enjoy the nice fall weather. I saw the most beautiful sunset last night and this morning’s sunrise was also gorgeous. Sometimes life gets so crazy, and I forget to take time to just slow down, breath, and enjoy the beauty around me. Since this week has been so hectic, I only ran once. I plan on running today and relieving a lot of my stress. In college since students are constantly pulled in so many directions it is so easy to feel weighed down. I have learned it is important to take time to relax and rejuvenate. Admiring the beautiful fall nature here really helps me take a step back and refocus myself. After I write this blog, I plan on running by the lake and through the woods to see all of the leaves changing colors and see the reflection of the trees on the water. I love the feeling of the crisp clean air hitting my face and smelling nature as I run through it. During my runs, I often try to pray and completely clear my mind. It is like my only little therapeutic session. Writing about all of this is getting me even more pumped for my run. Plus, I run the Nashville half marathon in 8 days! I do not think I can wait any longer; I am so excited!

Well I need to head out and run before my parents come. Have a wonderful weekend!

Beautiful Sunset!

I absolutely love fall, it is by far the best season! This past weekend I was able to enjoy some wonderful fall weather with my family during break. Here is basically the break down of my wonderFALL break

I drove to Wheaton and visited my friend from high school at Wheaton College. [Hope is way better, my sister went to Wheaton and my parents like hope more too =)]. After visiting her, I drove to my sister’s new apartment in Wheaton. I helped my dad assemble some of her new furniture, and my dad and I had some quality bonding time together.

Friday evening:

We ate at my favorite restaurant in Naperville called Jin 28, and they have the BEST sushi! Then we ate ice cream and walked around downtown. Once we arrived back at her apartment we watched House together, which is my favorite T.V. show. All four of slept in her bedroom apartment for the evening.

Bike Trail in Springfield

Sunday evening:

My friends from high school came home to surprise me. We basically just caught each other up on life and enjoyed Sonic together. It was so great to see them again!

Both of these days I had lunch with some friends and worked on homework. I basically slept a lot and caught up on some much needed sleep. I went on a walk in the park with my PE teacher from high school and gained some wonderful insight from her.

This break was so wonderful. I now feel replenished and refreshed. I am so thankful for the wonderful people in my life. I have so much to be thankful and love home, but I also love coming back to Hope. I am glad I am now back in the swing of things and loving my time here!

Have a great weekend!

Birthday, Birthday, So much Birthday!

Hello Everyone!

I hope all is well. This past weekend was packed with fun. I’ll fill you more on what I did later this week, but today I’m going to highlight Grace’s 20th birthday. Her birthday was on Sunday. My roommate Amy and I woke up and drove to Grandville to bring Grace Biggby coffee, because she absolutely loves Biggby. When we arrived at her dorm with coffee she was so excited! Then we ate in Phelps with her. While we were eating some of the guys in her dorm decorated her room with streamers and balloons.

In the afternoon, Grace and I ran for a long time and enjoyed the most beautiful weather. It was sunny and in the 70’s. We also had a great running discussion. I love our talks when we run. We are right now in training for a half marathon in Nashville on November 12. I love running with Grace and training together, it helps the time pass by much faster.

City Vu in downtown. We all enjoyed an absolutely delicious meal. The meal even came with a free carrot cake dessert for her birthday!

Hope you all have wonderful weeks!
