On the second night in Dublin, Ireland, I went to an authentic Irish pub for the first time. My only exposure to an Irish pub was the Curragh (if you’re a Hope student, you know what I’m talking about), and I was thrilled to experience the true Irish pub. The name of the pub that I went to in Ireland is called the Celt.
The moment I opened the door, a blaring music welcomed me. On every table, candles were placed in whiskey bottles and it was the perfect decor to accompany the special night. Green and red Christmas lights around the ceiling mysteriously glowed in the dark. The live performance was far too loud for my newly met flatmates and I to carry a conversation, but we didn’t care. When the musicians started to sing Take Me Home, Country Roads, we all could not help it but to smile big and sing along.
I had my first Guinness beer ever. It was not as bitter as I expected from seeing how dark the beer was, but I am simply not a big beer drinker. I could only drink ¾ of it, but I am so glad that I got to try it in Ireland. The smoked haddock, cod and salmon chowder I ordered was FANTASTIC! To be honest, I was not expecting the food in Ireland to be that great, but I am pleasantly surprised. Every food that I tried here has been amazing. I am especially happy that there are so many Asian restaurants around.
