Off-Campus Study

Home

And so here we are on another Sunday. This week absolutely flew by, and I think that is due to how busy I have been the past few days. I typically only go into my internship once a week, but this week I was able to get out of my room three out of the four days. I was working on a huge project this week of cross-referencing more than 15,000 names in our database to see if any of them have sent us mail within the past year or so to use in an upcoming trial, and it was a very strenuous task. I ended up completing it right at the end of the day Friday, and so that was a really good feeling to go into the weekend.

Due to how busy I was this week I was not able to get out to experience much besides school and work, but I did go see a play. The play was called “Queen of the Night” and was essentially about a father and his gay son who go camping to relive easier times. It focuses on masculinity and the struggles that those part of the LGBTQ+ community face, and it was a very good performance. It was just another example of something that I could not typically find in Holland, and it was great to have the exposure.

A very empty train

I woke up Saturday morning with the urge to go home, and so I did. I bought a train ticket less than an hour after waking up and I do not regret it at all. It was my first time ever riding the train, and I was nervous to travel alone but it was actually a lot of fun. I was surprised by how Union Station was almost like a mini airport, and I felt like Harry Potter the entire time. I’m happy to be home to watch the Super Bowl with my family (go Stafford), as well as spend valentine’s day with some of my friends from Hope. This weekend has been centered around self care, and was a much needed break from the rush of city life. One of the first things I noticed when I got off the train was how quiet it really is here, and at first it made me so uncomfortable. I have become so used to constantly listening to everything around me that silence feels uneasy and wrong. Oh well though. I am thankful to be home with my family and friends, and hope everyone enjoys Super Bowl (or Euphoria) Sunday!
