Get to Know Me

Hi everyone! My name is Rachael Kabagabu, and I am so excited to be starting as a Hope blogger this year! I can’t wait to bring you along for my journey at Hope over the next few years! I thought I would use this post as a get-to-know-you, so here are five facts about me:

I’m from two states

You’re probably thinking that this doesn’t make any sense, so let me explain. I was raised and did my K-12 schooling Okemos, MI, a suburb of Lansing.

Right before my graduation, I found out I was going to move to Iowa. So last August, my family and I packed our cars and headed eight hours west to a town called Ames, where I currently live.

It has been an interesting experience, and one positive that comes out of this is that I now know what it is like to be an in-state student and an out-of-state student.

I was a Phelps Scholar last year

sn’t sure what I was getting myself into when I signed up to be a part of the Phelps Scholar program the summer before my freshman year, but looking back now, I am so glad I did! I met so many amazing people, went on really fun field trips, and had a great time learning about other cultures. If you are considering being a part of the program, I would high recommend it!

My majors are Political Science and French

I began taking french my freshman year of high school, and to be honest, I wasn’t planning on doing a major at Hope. But once I started taking classes here, I realized how much I truly enjoy it and decided to make it a major. I’ve always been a political junkie (I watch Anderson Cooper’s show every night!), so deciding to major in political science was a no brainer for me.

I love to read

Reading is my all-time favorite thing to do. If i’m not in class or working on homework, you can mostly likely find me in my room or at a coffee shop downtown flipping through a fashion magazine or reading a novel. I even read the entire Harry Potter series in seven weeks last fall!

I also love to travel

I’ve been fortunate enough to visit 21 states, and I’ve been out of the country multiple times. My most memorable experience was when I went to Germany, France, and Switzerland with my high school orchestra for 11 days. It was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life and made me want to travel even more, so it now one of my ambitions in life. I want to visit all seven continents and go to at least 60 different countries!

I cannot wait to begin documenting my life for all of you! Have a great weekend!
