Jammin to Jazz

Hi Everyone!

This past Monday evening I drove to Grand Rapids with three of my friends from Survey of Jazz class. Our jazz class requires us to attend five concerts throughout the semester, so we decided to attend the Hope College Musical Showcase in Grand Rapids. We left around 6 pm to eat dinner before at a restaurant called XO in Grand Rapids. We enjoyed a delicious meal together and ate some awesome sushi. I ordered my favorite mango Asian dish with a classic California roll, one of my most favorite meals to eat.

After dinner we walked to the DeVos Performance Hall. Unfortunately I left my jacket in the car and walked a mile outside in the cold to arrive at the concert. However, the calm and smooth music definitely made the walk bearable. We watched some of Hope’s top student musicians perform a variety of pieces. It was a nice opportunity to get off campus and attend a formal concert with my friends.

On our way back to campus we stopped at 7-11 for some delicious slurpees, another one of my favorite treats. Then we finished the night together working on our Survey of Jazz project together. The concert was a great and fun homework assignment to have. The concert reminded me of the days when I use to attend all of sister’s musical concerts.

Well tonight begins Dance Marathon, which starts in less than four hours. I’ll be sure to update my blog after the Marathon. I am so excited, because this is my first year attending it. I’m on the Volunteer Services Committee’s dance team. Hopefully I’ll be able to stay awake for a majority of the 24 hours. However, I am currently running on only three hours of sleep from last night. Oh well, bring on the fun!
