Quality Time with a Quality Person

I’m not afraid to admit that sometimes at college I do feel homesick and miss my parents. This past week I really felt like going home and visiting my parents. Unfortunately, I live six hours away so I cannot just hop in my car and drive home. I called my dad on Friday evening and told him that I really was missing him and asked if he might like to come to Holland and visit me. To my surprise, he said yes right away. He told me he would leave for Holland first thing in the morning. So he left home at 8:30 am and arrived in Holland around 3:30 pm. When he arrived we spent some time talking at JP’s. We caught up with everything happening in each other’s lives. After JP’s we ate a delicious dinner together at Butch’s restaurant. My dad really enjoys eating fresh fish, so we both ordered the sea bass and enjoyed tuna as an appetizer. After dinner I spent some time with my dad back at the hotel. Then I hung out with some of my friends as he headed to bed. Today I brought him to church with me, and then after he took my friends and me out for lunch. We all ate delicious omelets at cute Dutch restaurant called DeBour’s.

My dad and I finished off the afternoon picking out a new book at Barnes and Noble then sipping coffee at JP’s, which is where I am now trying to catch up on homework. I’m so thankful my dad was able to come visit me and lift my spirits. We are super close and have a great relationship. He enjoys visiting Holland and likes to take my friends out for meals. I seriously think I have the best dad in the world. I definitely would not be at Hope College if it were not for him. Sometimes we need a reminder to thank our parents for all they do to provide the best for us. I’m so thankful for my parents and the blessing they are to me!
