Literacy Center of West Michigan – AmeriCorps Positions

I am reaching out to tell you a little about the Family Literacy AmeriCorps Program at the Literacy Center of West Michigan where I serve as the Volunteer Coordinator. This program is a great fit for students who are interested in pursuing a career in adult education, TESOL, linguistics, Spanish, English, multicultural studies or a public service oriented degree. It also serves as a great way to gain experience in TESOL, adult and language education, management, and being a part of a nonprofit.

There are four different types of positions within this AmeriCorps Program: English Language Instructor (6 positions), Family Literacy Tutor (2 positions), Volunteer Recruiter (1 position) and Bilingual Learner Support Advocate (1 position). These are full time service positions, 1700 hours over the course of 52 weeks with a modest living stipend.

We offer free English classes to the parents/caregivers of children in the Grand Rapids and Godwin Heights Public School systems and tutoring at Head Start sites.

Please pass on this information to students and faculty that might be interested and they can feel free to contact me at

Thank you for your time!
