The Office of Public Affairs and Marketing is pleased to host our first Social Media Summer School, a series of 1-hour workshops about social media, offered by our Digital Strategist, Elizabeth Council.

Topics to be covered vary from the basics to advanced marketing techniques. Please note: Additional sessions will be offered during fall and spring semester based upon interest from the campus community. 

 

The beginner’s guide to understanding social media

This session will introduce unique features offered by popular social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of how each channel is used and differs from the others. This session is intended for persons new to, or inexperienced with, social media.

Setting up for social media success

This beginner session is intended for department and office social media managers who would like guidance on managing their social presence more effectively. Topics covered will include:  What channels should I be using? How do I set up my accounts so they are branded properly? Tips for managing multiple accounts; basics and best practices for identifying your audience and sharing content.

Leveraging social media for engagement

We’ll also address how to respond to criticism from fans and followers. This session is intended for office and department social media managers.

Social media can play a vital role in establishing your reputation personally and professionally. This session will present tips and best practices for leveraging social media to help achieve your professional goals, while addressing common practices you should avoid. We’ll cover social media profiles, content sharing, the separation of personal and professional use, and establishing personality for your channels. This session is being jointly offered by the Career Development Center and Public Affairs and Marketing.
