Katrina Clayton ’21 – CIEE Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic

¡¿Qué lo qué?! (Hey, what’s going on?!) My name is Katrina Clayton and I’m from Holland, MI. I am a junior, double majoring in Sociology and Psychology with the hopes of going onto being a program developer in health and human services and higher education. I am a research assistant for the Psychology department which will be put on hold while I encounter the beautiful city of Santiago de Los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.

I am a member of the Hope College and Community Gospel Choir, and love to dance with my international friends here at Hope. The outdoors has become my sanctuary where I find peace in interacting with the ornate natural world.

While abroad, I hope to deepen my understanding of social stratification, international relations, and cultural differences within one nation. Improving my Spanish skills is also an exciting opportunity to take advantage of by living in a Dominican family home.
