Moving to the Big City: Chicago Edition!

Hi everyone! Chicago Semester is now underway, and the past week and a half have been packed full of fun! Here are just a few of the highlights from my time here so far:

DAY ONE

I started my journey to the city from Kentucky with my amazing family. We spent our first night in Chicago at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel and ate at the famous Gibsons Steakhouse.

DAY TWO

On day two, after getting settled in, we explored Eataly in downtown Chicago which is a two-story building that has different Italian micro restaurants as well as fresh produce and meats that can be purchased. I have been to Eataly quite a few times, but it’s a fantastic place to go because you can try something new every time you go! That night, we ate at a newer restaurant in a town outside the city (Barrington) called Scratch.

DAY THREE

On my family’s last day here, we ate at Chicago Prime Italian in Schaumburg. I highly recommend every place we ate at, whether you’re a foody or not – each place has something for everyone! That day, I spent my first night in the apartment with my amazing roommates – Emily and Allison. We chose to live as a trio and are in love with our new little home! After about a week, we are still working on making this place perfect, but it will get there soon! With so many Chicago Semester students living in the same building, we ended up have multiple nights of walking tours through the building to see how others had transformed their little places into their homes for the next few months.

DAYS FOUR AND FIVE

Finally, I had orientation to the Chicago Semester program and for my nursing internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital! Some of the highlights of the program orientation were getting to meet the Chicago Semester staff, getting to know other students, eating at fun new restaurants (including famous Chicago deep-dish pizza and new experiences like Indian food), and learning how to use the different methods of transportation around the city (like the L and buses).

DAYS SIX AND SEVEN

For my internship, although the orientation was short, it made me so excited to get started and learn! I will be working at Northwestern along with a lot of the other Hope Nursing students.

We got to travel as a little group after orientation to get our badges and on the way back we made a stop at the amazing Starbucks Reserve Roastery – the largest coffee shop in the world! This stop is a must if you are a coffee or tea drinker!

DAY EIGHT

A few of us at the end of the week snuck off to see a Blackhawks game as well which was really cool – the Hawks won!

So yeah! Lots of fun and adventures to start this semester off. I’m really looking forward to the coming weeks and what they will bring. See y’all next week!!

For now, I’ll leave you with my favorite coffee from this week:

La Colombe Coffee Roasters!
