(Re)Introducing MeLCat!

Welcome to spring semester 2019!

After much anticipation and a lot of work by our technical services department, we are back in MeLCat!

If you aren’t familiar with MeLCat, it is a centralized catalog with holdings from over 400 libraries of varying types across Michigan.  Calvin College, University of Michigan, Michigan State, Kalamazoo College, Kent District Library, Herrick District Library and many, many other libraries are included. Participating in MeLCat greatly increases the number of resources the students, faculty and staff of Hope College have available to them!  You can request books on your research topic, novels, CDs and DVDs. Anything that piques your interest! There are literally millions of titles available.

Access MeLCat from our library homepage or by going to elibrary.mel.org.

Because of our system change from Innovative Sierra to Ex Libris, signing in to request your MeLCat items will be a little different. Use your name and the number above the barcode on the back of your ID. Don’t worry, you’ll have it memorized soon!

If you start your search in Primo you can click in to MeLCat right from there. On the results page, look for the MeLCat link on the left side. Your search is duplicated in MeLCat.

If you reach a dead end in Primo the link appears at the bottom of the page:

Once your MeLCat item is received at Hope you will be notified by email and it will be waiting for you on the hold shelf for 10 days. The item will show up in your Primo account at this point only. To renew  your material, log in to your MyMeL account.  There is a link at the top of the MeLCat page and also right from your Primo account.

If you have questions contact us at askalibrarian@hope.edu or ill@hope.edu. We’re thrilled to bring this awesome resource back to Hope and appreciate your patience!
