Over twenty Hope College faculty have already signed up for a workshop that aims to improve student paper assignments. The CWR workshop “Effective Scaffolding for Better Student Papers” will take place on Tuesday, October 30, at 11:00 a.m. in the Maas Conference Room. Space is still available; send an RSVP to the CWR if you’d like to attend.
The Countdown Begins
The CWR re-opens next Sunday at noon. Why wait? Come in and brainstorm your ideas for that first paper. (No assignment yet? Surprise your professor: ask for it early.)
The Writing Assistants are Back!
Many thanks to our fabulous Hope College Writing Assistants who are preparing for the 2012-2013 academic year. All twenty-five of them have been back on campus for several days, attending workshops and training sessions, so that they can provide the best possible assistance to Hope students. The CWR opens for business next Sunday; stop by and say hello to your new WAs.
CWR Hours for Finals Week
The CWR is open during Finals Week on a reduced schedule (so that our WA’s can study for, and take, their own finals!). We will have one WA on staff on Saturday 12-6, Sunday 3-10, Monday 10-4, Tuesday 10-9, and Wednesday 10-7. Call x7904 to make an appointment, or just drop in.
Make that Appointment!
It’s the last week of the semester, and things are a little crazy over here. To avoid waiting in line or finding yourself unable to see a Writing Assistant, please make an appointment! Stop by the Research Help desk, call x7904, or go to http://hope.edu/lib/cwr/appointment.php.
Get a Head Start on the Grad School Essay
Are you applying for grad school next fall? Get a head start at a CWR workshop on “Brainstorming the Grad School Essay”: This Wednesday at 4pm, repeated this Thursday at 11am, in the Rare Book Room.
Footnotes and Bibliography Got You Down?
This week, the CWR sponsors workshops on the citation system often used in the humanities, usually known as “Chicago” or “Turabian.” Come to the Rare Book Room on Thursday (Feb 2) at 3:30, or on Friday (Feb 3) at 2:00, and learn the basics in an hour.

Pay Us a Visit!
Spring Semester has begun, and the CWR is open for business. Make an appointment or drop by anytime — we’re now open 10 to 10 on Mondays through Thursdays, as well as 1-10 on Sundays.
CWR Open Friday and Saturday
We know that things get busier at the end of the semester, so the CWR will be open for a few hours on Friday and Saturday this week: Friday from 11 until 6 and Saturday from 10 until noon. Service will be limited, so it’s still best to make an appointment.
