Join us at 3:00 p.m. today when we will gather to celebrate and dedicate the writing center in honor of a former Hope professor. The CWR is about to become The David J. Klooster Center for Excellence in Writing! Gathering music begins at 2:45; the ceremony will last about 20 minutes. A reception follows, to which everyone is invited.
WA Applications Due Monday!
Do you have what it takes to be a great Writing Assistant? Applications are being accepted for the 2014-2015 academic year. Speak with Dr. Cunningham at the CWR for more information.
For Faculty: Using Student Peer Review in Your Classes
The Center for Writing and Research is hosting a workshop on using peer review to improve student writing. Dr. Courtney Werner will discuss where peer review can best fit into the writing process, as well as best practices for making the process as productive as possible. It will be held on Tuesday, March 11, repeated on Wednesday, March 12, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. in the Maas Conference Room on both dates; lunch is included. Please rsvp to facwr@hope.edu and indicate which day you plan to attend.
Spring Break is just a few days away!
Do you have a paper due before Spring Break? If so, please make an appointment to visit the CWR as soon as possible. At this time of year, spots tend to fill up fast. Call x7025 or Click on “Make an appointment.”
Extra Hours for Finals Week
The CWR will offer additional services for finals: extra staff this Friday from 10am to 5pm; one Writing Assistant on duty Saturday 10am until 7pm; and we’ll keep our full regular schedule from Sunday through Thursday of Finals Week. For best results, schedule an appointment as far before your due-date as possible.
Make Your Appointment Without Delay
We’re in the last week of classes, and appointment slots at the CWR are filling up fast. Avoid disappointment by scheduling yours now. Call x7025 or click the “make an appointment” link on the right.
Open House this Sunday!
On Sunday, September 1, from noon until late, we’ll be hosting an Open House at the Center for Writing and Research. Come in and meet our Writing Assistants. No paper required! Also, we’ll have better-than-usual chocolate available (Lindor, Ghirardelli), so you’ll be rewarded for stopping by to say hello. See you Sunday!
Come pay us a visit!
The Center for Writing and Research opens for business on the first Sunday after school starts. This year, that means Sunday, September 1. We’re open that day, and every Sunday, from noon until 11p.m. Even if you don’t have a paper that you want to work on, please drop by and meet one of our Writing Assistants. They’ll have special treats for those who visit on Sunday, September 1. See you then!
The End-of-First-Half Blues
First-half courses are coming to an end this week, which means that the CWR will be busier than usual. Make your appointment now to avoid the unfortunate experience of discovering (later this week) that no open slots are available.
Make that Appointment!
Our Writing Assistants have been phenomenally busy offering help-sessions this week. With midterms coming up, you’ll start seeing even more traffic-jams in the CWR. While walk-ins are always welcome, you can avoid waiting in line by signing up for a specific time slot. Call x7904 or click on the “Make an appointment” link at the right.
