The Writing Assistants are Back!

Many thanks to our fabulous Hope College Writing Assistants who are preparing for the 2012-2013 academic year.  All twenty-five of them have been back on campus for several days, attending workshops and training sessions, so that they can provide the best possible assistance to Hope students.  The CWR opens for business next Sunday; stop by and say hello to your new WAs.

CWR Hours for Finals Week

The CWR is open during Finals Week on a reduced schedule (so that our WA’s can study for, and take, their own finals!).  We will have one WA on staff on Saturday 12-6, Sunday 3-10, Monday 10-4, Tuesday 10-9, and Wednesday 10-7.  Call x7904 to make an appointment, or just drop in.

Make that Appointment!

It’s the last week of the semester, and things are a little crazy over here.  To avoid waiting in line or finding yourself unable to see a Writing Assistant, please make an appointment!  Stop by the Research Help desk, call x7904, or go to

Footnotes and Bibliography Got You Down?

This week, the CWR sponsors workshops on the citation system often used in the humanities, usually known as “Chicago” or “Turabian.” Come to the Rare Book Room on Thursday (Feb 2) at 3:30, or on Friday (Feb 3) at 2:00, and learn the basics in an hour.

Follow the CWR on Twitter. Get Free Stuff.

Did you know that the CWR has a Twitter feed? OK, only a tiny one, but this semester we’re offering something every week — usually a tip on a great resource for improving your writing. Click here to follow us!

CWR Open Friday and Saturday

We know that things get busier at the end of the semester, so the CWR will be open for a few hours on Friday and Saturday this week: Friday from 11 until 6 and Saturday from 10 until noon. Service will be limited, so it’s still best to make an appointment.

Write a Better Grad School Essay!

The CWR is hosting a workshop on Writing the Graduate School Essay. It will be held on Tuesday, November 8 at 11:00-12:00 and repeated on Wednesday, November 9 at 3:30-4:30. If you’d like to participate, send an e-mail to and let us know which day you plan to attend.

Make that appointment!

Our Writing Assistants have been phenomenally busy offering help-sessions this week. With midterms coming up, you’ll start seeing even more traffic-jams in the CWR. While walk-ins are always welcome, you can avoid waiting in line by signing up for a specific time slot. Call x7904 or click on the “Make an appointment” link at the right.
