FAR: How far back to include?

By mid-January 2019 it is expected that data in Faculty Activity Reporting (FAR) will be accurate back to January 2018. Any reports pulled will assume accuracy from 2018 on.

This means you only need to enter data from 2018 on. But you can keep going back further!

Reasons you might want to include data from before 2018:

  1. It’s easier to include the activity than filter it out.  This is true if you’re uploading data from another source (a BibTeX file or a spreadsheet).
  2. You want people to know. Since the database is searchable, even if it doesn’t show on any annual reports, people can still find out that you are an expert or you won a particular prestigious award.
  3. You want to see how it looks in a report. As you’re testing the system, if you want to see how FAR compares to the old format, you might want to enter all 2017 data from your last Service to Hope form and run reports to see how the activities are reported.
  4. You want to use Activity Insight (the FAR software) to create your own CV. If all your faculty activities are in the system, with just a few clicks you can create customized CVs to fit a variety of purposes, often using your preferred citation style. The CV will download as an editable Word document, so you can change stylistic elements after download as well.
